Designed for performance as much as for beauty, this custom residence on Canada’s West Coast presented unique challenges that demanded equally robust solutions. Exposed to salt-laden winds and seasonal extremes, the project required glazing systems that could hold up under harsh coastal conditions while still delivering clean lines, expansive openings, and unobstructed views.
Summit Glazing worked closely with the design team to develop a complete façade solution centred around Schüco’s marine-grade systems. At the heart of the assembly is the FWS 50.SI curtain wall, a high-performance unitized system chosen for its structural reliability and refined detailing. Integrated into the curtain wall are AWS 75 BS operable inserts with exterior screens, offering both flexibility and protection without compromising visual continuity.
The living spaces feature ASE 67 PD pocket door systems, carefully aligned beside the fireplace to maximize openness without crowding interior flow. These are paired with ASE 67 PD minimal sliding doors and AD UP 75 swing doors, all customized to meet exacting design and accessibility requirements. Together, these components form a seamless, high-performance envelope that captures panoramic ocean views while delivering exceptional thermal and air-sealing performance.
In a climate where building materials are routinely put to the test, every Schüco product used on this project was specified with a marine-grade finish. This ensures long-term resilience against corrosion and fading, extending both aesthetic and functional longevity.
This project reflects Summit Glazing’s ability to navigate complex environmental demands without sacrificing design intent. The result is a glazing package that is as durable as it is elegant, supporting long-term performance in one of British Columbia’s most challenging coastal environments.
