Sunshine Coast

Carved into the exposed granite of British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast, this contemporary home is as much a feat of engineering as it is an architectural retreat. Designed to blur the line between shelter and site, the structure relies heavily on glazing to mediate views, light, and comfort. Summit Glazing was entrusted with executing a custom envelope that required both restraint and strength, built for a setting defined by extremes.

The centrepiece of the glazing package is a 33-foot-long ASE 80 Design Line lift-and-slide door, engineered to slide effortlessly across an opening that spans the full width of the main living area. This single unit demanded exact tolerances during installation and delivers unbroken access to the outdoor deck, offering uninterrupted ocean views from every vantage point inside.

In the master bedroom, a full-height FWS 50.SI curtain wall system rises through the rockface, showcasing views across the inlet while allowing passive light to anchor the upper floor. Multiple custom-shaped raked windows were incorporated throughout the project to complement the home’s angular form, each fabricated and installed to match the unique geometry of the structure.
Additional AWS 75 BS.SI operable windows and AD UP swing doors complete the package, ensuring thermal performance and durability across all access points. Interior detailing included the integration of custom FSB handles, reflecting the project’s focus on seamless transitions and tactile control.
Set against one of the most rugged residential sites in the province, this build demonstrates Summit’s ability to deliver high-spec glazing solutions under logistical and environmental constraints. From transportation to installation, each element was carefully planned and executed with precision, reflecting the company’s commitment to bringing complex design visions to life.
