The team of architects has created a stunning contemporary house, located in the Little Australia neighborhood of the UBC Endowment Lands, that blends harmoniously with its forest setting highlighting its. The design element of the natural surroundings has been incorporated into the project, resulting in a loose arrangement of simple and bold elements that appear to float in a park-like atmosphere, giving the impression of a pavilion in a park.
The house has been divided into two parts, with the stone-clad ‘solid’ half containing the essential services, such as the bedrooms, kitchen, and bathrooms. The transparent ‘pavilion’ half, on the other hand, features the living and dining rooms and the upper-floor roof terrace. The house has been carefully positioned on the east side of the property to allow an abundance of natural light into the home, enabling the garden to wrap continuously around the house, creating a naturalized setting that blends seamlessly with the surrounding forest.
The design of the residence is minimalist and modern, with open, floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in plentiful amounts of sunlight each morning. The extensive use of aluminum minimal frame windows and sliding doors creates a seamless transition between the interior and the stunning natural environment of British Columbia. Not only do these windows and doors provide breathtaking views, but they also deliver high-performance indicators, ensuring that both the looks and functionality of the house are met.
